The Chetco river is usually a late fishery taking place in late September through November. However, there are always a few kings showing up around the jaws starting in August. Most of them are just following baitfish into the estuary. So if you’re looking to get away from the crowds now is the time to hit the Chetco. It won’t be hot fishing, but you will have a shot at hooking up. Plus the Chetco always kicks out some trophy kings such as this 50lber:
If there are baitfish in the estuary jig up some anchovies and mooch them live. If not mooch some frozen anchovies or troll herring.
