It’s official. The first confirmed Rogue River springer was caught today on the lower river. Angler Johnny Briggs celebrated his 87th birthday by fishing with guide Shaun Carpenter of End of the Rogue Guide Service and was rewarded with an awesome present.
With a serious lack of rain so far this year, expect the springer bite to be tough, especially on the lower river. The fish will be shooting to the top, much like they did last year. That’s good news for Upper Rogue fishermen, as they can likely expect springers to start showing up in fishable numbers by the end of April again.
We’ll still have to wait and see what the rest of the year has in store, but for now let the madness begin!
